Like many administrators, Jim Vojtko of Cudahy Dental Associates was all too familiar with the tedious effort typically associated with meeting various insurance requirements. Take the unique rules of how a patient is covered with specialty care, for example. “Before Desco Dental Systems added automated programming features, we were handling specialty care issues manually with our old system,” explains Jim. “And we would have had to continue to do so even with a lot of other management systems because other software providers often times do not deal with these kinds of issues.”

Jim’s other insurance challenges

For Cudahy Dental, updating 45 fee schedules manually was an annual chore. Desco added a built-in mechanism that takes all the data and quite literally with a push of a button, updates it prior to the first of the year. “I had talked with other vendors about ways to more efficiently manage new fee schedules,” Jim adds, “and Desco was the only one that could come through for me.” Although this particular feature was custom-built for Jim, Desco can help you manage your fee schedules, too.

Another quirky fee schedule issue at Cudahy Dental was one that could be applied to patients only up to the age of 13; when a child patient turned 14, another fee schedule went into effect. Desco was able to modify the program to accommodate two schedules and automatically go to the second schedule when the patient turned 14 years old.

“Desco also helped improve functionality with visit fees,” says Jim. “Fees are now posted to each patient’s ledger. When a patient arrives, the front desk knows how much is owed for the visit, we can collect the fee, and it’s automatically posted to their account.” Desco also worked with the practice to automate write-off amounts for PPO insurances, which had previously been implemented manually as well.
